This course is designed for the student who wants to gain skills in cooking and baking techniques for their personal and/or professional use. The 6 essential nutrients are studied as they relate to the food pyramid with an emphasis on the culinary arts. The student will be required to perform inpidually and as a team member in enhancing and building upon knowledge and learned skills in the study of food science.

Prerequisite: Family Foods I
This course is for the student who would like to understand more complicated food preparation as well as creative techniques of cooking and baking. The influence of food in society and other related topics are examined. A special emphasis will be on the food preparation of different regions of the United States and from around the world.

75 Child Development I
Grades 9-12
Elective 1/2 credit

Child Development is the study of the care and guidance of children from conception to school age. Our studies will focus on parenthood, teen pregnancy, effective parenting skills, prenatal care, pregnancy, delivery, developmental ages and stages, social issues centered around children, as well as examination of the theories of child development. Students will have the option to participate in a simulated experience of caring for an infant.

Grades 10-12 1/2 credit
Elective Articulation Agreement

Prerequisite: Child Development I
The student will continue the study of children. The emphasis on the necessary skills desirable for working with children will be examined. Students will have the opportunity to observe and interact with children inside and outside the classroom. Tech Prep College Credits can be available for students who complete the required qualifications.
